The New Fabric of Life

Drs Kaori O'Connor and Graeme Were (UCL Anthropology) are to run a one-day workshop entitled 'The New Fabric of Life: Textile Technologies in Contemporary Society' at the Horniman Museum on 23 September 2006.

It will be the first in-depth workshop especially devoted to textile technologies from a societal point of view.

At the event, which is financed by the Pasold Fund for Textile Research, Dr O'Connor will present on the theme of new smart textiles' and Dr Were will speak about technologies of the thread. Dr Susanne Kuechler, also of UCL Anthropology, will discuss material embeddings of technology and the new face of innovation. The workshop will also feature external experts and the performance knitting group 'Cast Off'.
