UCL top in HEFCE research funding

In 2005/2006 UCL will receive more research funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) than any other university, a reflection of the quality and volume of its research.

Professor Malcolm Grant, President and Provost of UCL The HEFCE funding was announced on 10 March 2005, with UCL's research funding set at £92,990,000, more than 7.4% of the total HEFCE research funding. The total resource for UCL from HEFCE will be £162,321,000, 6.5% more than last year. 

Professor Malcolm Grant, President and Provost of UCL, welcomed the funding as an indication of UCL's leading position among research-intensive universities:  "It is a tribute to the excellent, groundbreaking work by UCL's researchers, who are tackling the world's intellectual, cultural, scientific, economic, environmental and medical challenges."
