Simon Schama to deliver third Roy Porter Lecture

Professor Simon Schama will deliver the third annual Roy Porter Lecture, organised by UCL's Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine, on 5 May 2005.

Professor Roy Porter His lecture 'America, Britain and the War of the Bard' will reflect on his current research for a book and television series on Anglo-American relations. Professor Schama brought history to a wider audience with the prizewinning television series A History of Britain, which he wrote and presented.

The lecture series is a tribute to the late Professor Porter. A prolific author and historian, he produced more than 200 books on a plethora of subjects before his death in 2002, including histories of geology, madness and psychiatry, and a social history of London. His major publication, The Enlightenment, received international acclaim.

The lecture is free, but by ticket only for this popular event. Attendees must register by 30 March 2005.
