UCL beat Jesus

13 April 2005

UCL scored an emphatic victory over Jesus College, Cambridge in the third quarter-final of University Challenge on 4 April 2005 to secure a place in the semi-finals - a first for UCL.

Jeremy Paxman and the UCL team

Introducing UCL at the beginning of the programme, the host, Jeremy Paxman said: "UCL's first two performances were extremely strong beating Warwick in round one and East Anglia in round two with scores well into the two hundreds. The last time we saw them they answered well on pretty much everything from weasels to pasta."

The team, made up of Olivier Usher (History & Philosophy of Science), Roger Wesson (Physics & Astronomy), Peter Hinstridge (Medicine) and Ivan Polancec (History), continued their high-scoring run beating Jesus 175 to 110.

The semi-final will be screened on 25 April.
