Staff pinboard online

26 April 2005

UCL's new staff pinboard is now online.

UCL staff pinboard The aim of the site is for UCL staff to buy, sell or trade wares and swap useful information.

The site has already received many postings, with staff trading many unusual items including cars and antique maps of Russia and some staff looking to generate social groups, such as one staff member who is seeking like-minded rubber bridge enthusiasts for lunchtime sessions.

Ms Glenda Young (Medical Physics & Bioengineering), who set up the pinboard with Mr Jack Levy (Information Systems), said she has had a great deal of positive feedback: "This is a friendly, community forum for UCL staff to sell or swap their unwanted items, to advertise accommodation to let or wanted and to get in touch with others with similar interests. For example, I send used stamps on to Oxfam and I have been inundated with envelopes of used stamps since I posted a request on the pinboard asking for stamps to be sent to me. I have also been in email contact with other amateur gardeners with UCL after they read my post requesting unwanted office plants."

The pinboard is divided into seven sections: items for sale, items wanted, sports and social, accommodation, holiday rentals, freebies and miscellaneous. It is moderated to ensure that any unsuitable or spam messages are removed.
