The Slade at the Bloomsbury

18 April 2005

Incestuous Beginnings, new video and theatre work by Slade School students, continues the Slade's tradition of bringing art to the theatre.

Tiffany Freisberg and Ian Lilley in ‘Squat’ The show, at the UCL Bloomsbury theatre on 21-23 April 2005, includes a new play, Squat, by Slade student Jennie Coles, winner of the 2004 London Writer's Award.

Jennie was on this year's Royal Court Young Writers Programme, which is committed to opening up theatre to the most exciting and diverse range of new voices. It aims to develop and perform the best in new writing for the theatre, encouraging writers from all sections of society to address the problems and possibilities of our times and to promote its work vigorously to new and existing audiences.

Directed by UCL student Danielle McIlven (History), Squat is a portrait of the artist as a deluded man. Hauled up in his studio squat, surviving on whisky and cakes, Tom staggers through the scrapyard of his rotting mind. The cast includes Tiffany Freisberg (English Language & Literature) and Patrick Johnson (European Social & Political Studies).

Also featured will be short videos by other graduate students on the MA in Fine Art programme.

The UCL Bloomsbury is a 550-seat West End arts venue, hosting a programme of drama, dance, film, opera, comedy and music, academic debates and lectures, as well as 12 weeks of student and staff productions each year.

Incestuous Beginnings is at 7.30pm on 21-23 April 2005. To find out more use the link below.
