UCL biochemistry student Isa Guha has been selected to play for the England Women's cricket team against New Zealand in August 2004.

Isa is fast becoming a regular fixture in the team after making her international debut at the age of 17 in the 2001 European Cup. Earlier this year she toured South Africa with England where they eventually won the series 4-1, consolidating their ranking of third in the world.

The game has changed tremendously since Isa first began playing against her local boys team at the age of eight. Now there is a wide network of club and county teams and a dedicated academy. "People have started taking us more seriously, especially when we're winning!" explains Isa.A medium fast pace bowler, Isa plays for premier division Reading at club level and Berkshire at county level. She also takes part in the Super Fours competition, another new initiative aimed at giving a higher profile to the sport. The Super Fours are made up of the 48 best players in the country and are used to select the England squad.
