Princess Royal to open new student accommodation at UCL

4 February 2004

HRH The Princess Royal, will be at University College London on Wednesday 4th February to open newly built student residences that will provide affordable accommodation for 216 students.

Media representatives are invited to attend the opening of Frances Gardner House, scheduled for 4pm, at Langton Close, Wren Street, Gray's Inn Road, London WC1X 0HD.

Frances Gardner was Dean of the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine from 1962 to 1975. Frances Gardner House has been built on the old site of the Royal Free Hospital. UCL will be awarded Hospitality Assured accreditation on the opening day, an important indicator of the quality of the residences that UCL provides to its students. The building was designed by architects Fielden Clegg Bradley.

John Foreman, Dean of Students at UCL said: "This building is part of a wider strategy to increase the number of high quality, affordable student residences within close proximity of the main campus."
