UCL professor nominated as 'Professional of the Year' at the Asian Women of Achievement Awards

As Professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience and Head of the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Unit, her research and clinical work is devoted to understanding the cognitive and behavioural deficits of brain injured children, as well as inherited speech and language disorders and childhood amnesia.

She has recently published pioneering research that illustrates how damage inflicted on a specific area of the brain can lead to serious antisocial behaviour in puberty and adulthood. Award judge Professor Brian Gazzard, of Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, stated: "Professor Vargha-Khadem's achievements are truly outstanding both in the field of science and in the field of understanding the importance of mental health to child development."

The Asian Women of Achievement Awards are widely regarded as the most prestigious and high-profile of their kind. They acknowledge individual accomplishment of Asian women from across the UK. Prizes are divided into seven categories, recognising efforts in arts & culture, business, social & humanitarian and media fields. There are also awards for entrepreneurship and young achiever of the year.
