UCL art school to set up first 'businessman in residence'

Dominic Palfreyman, who was an investment banker with Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank before joining Westdeutsche Landesbank in London as Managing Director, will take up his position at UCL's Slade School of Fine Art.

Modelled on the already established artists-in-residence schemes, the businessman-in-residence is the brainchild of Slade School graduate student Henrik Schrat. Along with ensuring a closer collaboration between art and business, it is hoped that Dominic's work will also be the subject matter for an artistic exhibition later this year.

The venture is supported by an expert advisory panel embracing the fields of art and business which includes Andrea Tarsia of the Whitechapel Gallery and Alastair Creamer of Lever Faberge.

Dominic Palfreyman, due to deliver his inaugural lecture at the Slade School later this week said:

"I am delighted to be at UCL's Slade School of Fine Art as the first businessman in residence. The business of being an artist, the use and abuse of art by business, and business as the subject matter of art are three areas that I look forward to exploring with students and staff."
