CNIE research presented at 9th World Congress of Particle Technology in Madrid
26 September 2022

At the 9th World Congress of Particle Technology in Madrid Dr Victor Francia , alumnus of the UCL Centre for Nature-Inspired Engineering (CNIE) and now an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University, was invited as a speaker in the memorial session for Prof Uğur Tüzün, where he had the chance to present CNIE technology to top experts in particle technology.
In collaboration with Professor Marc-Olivier Coppens, Dr Francia takes inspiration from the structured granular patterns observed in nature to develop a new type of gas-sold operation, termed “Dynamically Structured Fluidization”. Dynamically structured fluidized beds have drawn the attention of the scientific community for several reasons. Their complex spatiotemporal behaviour has led to the advance of theories describing the powder flow, and their unique ability to mix solids in a fully scalable, homogenous and responsive way, spearheads a new type of low-velocity contact chamber for the optimisation of gas-solid processes in the manufacturing and energy sectors.
