Meroe: 'the bath' M 194, 195
The bath is an extensive building, with a pool (?) in the middle. Around it were found many sculptures but also other objects in a mixed Meroitic-Hellenistic style. Garstang suggested that these are the remains of a Roman style bath house. However, the whole building was perhaps a 'water sanctuary' (Welsby 1996: 122-123).
