Meydum, far west cemetery

To the west of the pyramid a cemetery of shaft tombs was excavated. The tombs seem never to have been used by the original owners, who were presumably people at the court of Snefru. The cemetery seems to be planned in a chest board arrangement but only the shafts were finished. Similar cemeteries have been excavated at Dahshur (also dating under king Snefru) and especially at Gizeh.

The reconstruction on Digital Egypt for Universities shows the possible arrangement of the planned mastabas that were meant to have been built above the shafts.
