King Scorpion (perhaps name of a king before the First Dynasty)
On a mace head from Hierakonpolis a king is shown. Next to him is the hieroglyph "scorpion". For that reason the name of the king has been taken to be an Egyptian word for/signified by "scorpion".
Many scholars doubt the reading and the existence of king "Scorpion".
Disputing the existence "Scorpion": Adams 1995: 48-49 |
Pro the existence of king "Scorpion": Kaiser 1964: 102-105 (the macehead is the only attestation for the king) |
