The Impact of 3D VR Reconstructions: Qau

Question - landscape of the largest rock-cut tombs: does VRML convey the impact of the Qau tombs within their specific landscape?

A VRML model of the tombs of the governors at Qau (23.1MB)

A selection of JPEG still images of the tombs of the governors at Qau

Background information on the tombs of the governors at Qau

Comments on the model: Creating the steep and complex landscape was a task itself. The reconstruction of the tombs is based on the Petrie's drawings. The enormous scale of the three tombs is evident when compared to the palm trees by the sandbed.

Evidence: The tombs are well excavated and recorded, although some details in the reconstructions are open to dispute: the roof of the causeway, the valley temple, or the roofing of the main structure.

Does the Qau question emerge from the pages?

Does the reconstruction help you learn about the site, or impose itself as reality?
