Faience in Roman Egypt (30 BC-642 AD)

At the beginning of the Roman Period the faience workshops changed from very fine to a rough material. Some forms of vessels copy western Samian ware. The glazing is often very thick and strong. Relief decoration is frequently found.

There is only a limited production of Egyptian style amulets. A group of such objects found at Denderah is dateable to the first century AD.
