We aim to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all museum visitors.
Level access
The Petrie Museum is accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility from street level via a lift in the adjacent Science Library. Upon arrival at the museum, visitors requiring lift/level access should ring the buzzer labelled ‘Museum’ located to the right of the main museum entrance. A member of our visitor services team will meet and escort you to the galleries via our level access route. Assistance is also available in reverse when exiting the museum.
Access between gallery spaces is available via a staff-operated lift. Please speak to a member of our visitor services team when you would like to move between galleries.
Toilets
The nearest Changing Places toilet facility is located on the ground floor of the Science Library and is accessible via a radar key. This building is immediately adjacent to the museum. Please speak to a member of our visitor services team at the welcome desk for directions and access.
Portable seating
A limited number of portable folding chairs are available to borrow from the museum welcome desk on a first come, first served basis.
Assistance animals
Assistance dogs are welcome at the Petrie Museum. Our visitor services team can provide a water bowl on request. If you would like to bring your assistance dog to a seated museum event, please contact our visitor services team in advance to reserve an aisle seat. We kindly ask that assistance dogs always wear their identification tabard / lead to display to others that they are a working dog.
If you plan to visit with a service animal other than an assistance dog, please get in touch with us prior to your visit: museums@ucl.ac.uk.
Accessible parking
Limited onsite accessible parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Accessible parking spaces can be booked in advance (with a minimum of 48 hours’ notice) by contacting our visitor services team.
Drop-off / Pick-up locations
We recommend the following drop-off / pick-up locations for visitors who require either a kerb or drop kerb when alighting from their vehicle:
- Kerb and drop kerb (drop-off only): Malet Street (Malet Place end).
Free from discrimination
UCL Museums actively support gender nonconforming, nonbinary, and transgender visitors and staff in their right to use our facilities free from discrimination.
