African Studies MA / MSc

African Studies MA/MSc programmes are currently NOT running.

We aim to provide students with a core grounding in major contemporary topics and their historical roots, while providing the flexibility for students to create their own specialised pathways through the degree.

African Studies students come from diverse backgrounds and go on to diverse careers. We also aim to create relaxed,enjoyable and interactive environment in which students can share their own experiences and ideas so as to learn from one another - building peer networks to carry into future careers.

African Studies with Heritage MSc

The MA in African Studies with Heritage will draw on UCL’s expertise in archaeology and anthropology to provide a critical framework for assessing the management and protection of heritage resources in Africa.

The African Studies and Education pathway will critically examine the contested  nature and form of of education in contemporary Africa, and the ways in which this impacts on relationships beyond the continent.

African Studies with Health MSc

Linking with UCL’s successful global health programme, the MSc in African Studies with Health provides the opportunity to acquire specialist knowledge on health infrastructure and community health issues in an African context.

The MSc in African Studies with Environment draws on expertise from across UCL to focus on contemporary environmental issues across Africa including water supply, agriculture, climate change and settlement growth.

African Studies convenes a range of bespoke modules on African topics. UCL students from outside of African Studies are also always very welcome to take our modules.
