MPhil/PHD students

CMII and UCL offer several funding opportunities for prospecitve and current research students, the most important of which are listed below. Further funding opportunities can be found at UCL scholarships and funding.

Our funding panel will only consider your application for these scholarships if you have already completed the UCL procedure for admission as a postgraduate research student and received an offer by the time you apply. This may take up to six weeks. You should ensure that you leave time for referees to submit their references and any additional checks to be completed.

Applications, additional documentation and letters of recommendation for the GRS, ORS and Wolfson Scholarships should be sent directly to selcs.admin@ucl.ac.uk. Complete applications (including references) must have reached us by Friday 4 January 2019.

Graduate Research Scholarships/Overseas Research Scholarships (GRS/ORS)

Up to 25 UCL Graduate Research Scholarships (GRS) are available annually to prospective and current UCL research students from any country. UCL Graduate Research Scholarships aim to attract high-quality students to undertake research at UCL.The Graduate Research Scholarships/Overseas Research Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and research potential Financial circumstances are not taken into account. Deadline: You must apply for admission and submit the additional information before Friday 4th January 2019.

Wolfson Scholarships

Drawing on its history of support for higher education and interest in the humanities, the Wolfson Foundation is offering four postgraduate research awards in the humanities - these will be for three areas in history, literature and languages.
Wolfson Scholarships will be available in three disciplines that align closely with the Foundation’s interests: history, literature and languages.
Please note: only UK/EU applicants are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

If you wish to be considered for this scholarship, please send us:

· a research proposal of no more than 1000 words

· instruct your proposed supervisor to submit a letter confirming that they are willing to supervise the specific project outlined.

Deadline: The deadline for 2018 has passed. The deadline for 2019 will be posted here in due course.

AHRC/LAHP Studentships


Subject to availability, these awards will cover:

  • Tuition fees for a maximum of three years at the Home/EU rate
  • Annual maintenance grant or allowance (stipend), £16,553 for 2017/18 (amount for 2018 to be updated when available)
  • LAHP has a limited number of full awards (fees and stipend) for EU students designated `fees-only’ by the AHRC
  • Applications are expected to open in late November 2018 - for more details please visit the LAHP website as below.

We strongly recommend that students wishing to apply for a LAHP studentship complete their application for admission at UCL by late December. 

 

UCL, Bloomsbury & East London Doctorial Training Partnership

Applicants to the Gender and Sexuality Studies PhD programme may be elibile for UBEL scholarships funded by the ESRC.  Propsective candidates must have applied to UCL by 1 December.

 

Graduate Research Scholarships for Cross Disciplinary Training (One-Year)

There are up to 4 scholarships available to current full-time research students who wish to spend an additional year of their MPhil/PhD or EngD in another UCL department acquiring research skills and knowledge from a different discipline, which can be applied in their normal area of research. Further details including how to apply can be found here.

Studentships in Russian, Slavonic and East European Languages and Culture

Students planning comparative research that includes a focus on Russian, Central and East European languages and culture are encouraged to explore this funding opportunity.

Applicants for a CEELBAS Studentship must have already received an offer of a place at the university.
