Imaging student Jacqueline Campbell named as 2020 Schmidt Science Fellow

20 April 2020

MSSL Imaging Group Phd Student Jacqueline Campbell has been named as a 2020 Schmidt Science Fellow: https://schmidtsciencefellows.org/news/2020-cohort/

MSSL's Jacqueline Campbell

The Schmidt Science Fellows Program is in its third year, and aims to bring together scientists from a wide range of backgrounds, who will now pivot disciplines and apply new approaches to long-term societal challenges, including infectious disease, climate change, and biodiversity loss.

Schmidt Science Fellows are paired with mentors, and attend a Global Meeting Series as a group during their Fellowship Year, enabling Fellows to engage with new concepts, to visit leading science facilities, and to engage with renowned thought-leaders from science, business, policy, and society.

Jacqueline’s PhD research focused on the search for organic molecules on Mars, and she will now pivot disciplines to look at the problem of ocean acidification on Earth. As a Schmidt Science Fellow, she aims to combine long-term satellite observations with ocean samples and marine wildlife observations to produce local and global maps of ocean water chemistry. By bringing together new studies with historic data sets, Jacqueline will seek to understand the impact of ocean acidification on biodiversity and inform new strategies to prevent the loss of marine species.
