The Green Impact team has worked hard to produce the Mullard Space Science Laboratory Sustainability Plan, which proposes various measures that could reduce the department's environmental impact.
The Mullard Space Science Laboratory Sustainability Plan started with a department-wide workshop in 2021, assisted by the Sustainable UCL team, from which various ideas were generated. After several years of work, the Green Impact team developed these ideas into the Department's first Sustainability Plan, in collaboration with senior management. This first version is for internal viewing only; however, we have begun work on version 2, which we plan to share with the wider UCL community.
The plan provides an opportunity to look in detail at the Department’s environmental impact and identify potential changes to infrastructure and behaviour to make it more sustainable and align it to the UCL Sustainability Goals. The proposals are sorted by category, related to the main goals of the UCL strategy: Positive Climate, The Loop and Wild Bloomsbury, and subdivided into energy efficiency, energy generation, travel and commuting, waste and recycling, food and drinks, wild Bloomsbury.
