To further reduce our impact, we have introduced several pledges and other initiatives at MSSL.
Our Pledges
Try Not to Fly GB+
The Green Impact team are pledging to go flight-free within Great Britain and to nearby Eurostar destinations (Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam) in the coming year. Following in the steps of UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences (PALS), the Space and Climate Physics Green Impact team are promoting a “Try Not to Fly GB+” pledge for the Green Impact team/wider department.
Will you join them by signing the pledge?
Minimal Meat Mondays
Our on-site cafe has pledged to offer only meat-free main options on a Monday, to encourage staff and students to reduce their meat consumption.
Reducing Junk Mail
Our office team has pledged to reduce paper junk mail by contacting the relevant companies. If you want to help to do this, contact Sarah Smith in the general office.
Greener Gardening
Our gardener has committed to reduce the impact of gardening on the environment.
- Not using plastic labels for planting.
- Not buying fossil-fuel powered machinery.
- Using only peat-free compost.
Other Initiatives
Reducing Single-Use Plastic
To reduce plastic waste, we've teamed up with the eco-conscious shop For Earth's Sake to give staff and students the option to order plastic-free groceries directly to MSSL. We also encourage staff to use our pod-free coffee machine to stop the generation of non-recyclable waste from coffee pods,
