Description

This module introduces students to the scientific study of how language is acquired by typically developing children, with special emphasis on development after the onset of syntax, at around 2 two years.  The aim of the module is to develop understanding of the processes of language acquisition.

The main module objectives are:

- to become familiar with the normal stages of language acquisition

- to become familiar with different frameworks and approaches to language acquisition, in particular with the generative approach

- to develop an ability to understand and evaluate research findings in language acquisition
