Part 1 of this module equips students with a practical understanding of data visualisation, covering the full spectrum of contemporary capabilities required to master this subject. You will learn about the role of design thinking in the visual display of data, the importance of developing journalistic instincts, the rigours of handling and analysing data, and the scientific foundations of visual perception.

Part 2 of this module offers a technical introduction to data visualisation for the web. It will cover the basic web-dev skills needed to engage with this fast-moving field, demonstrating simple but powerful tools (e.g. Leaflet and the three-line web map) and the more challenging but infinitely flexible D3, a set of powerful visualisation modules.
