UCL Institute of Mental Health



The Institute of Mental Health will showcase and foster growth of UCL's rich portfolio of groundbreaking mental health research.

UCL has enormous strengths in applied mental health research and in the basic sciences relevant to mental health. There are over 200 principal investigators at UCL making world-leading contributions to research into mental health conditions and treatments. Bibliometric analysis by RAND Europe in 2015 identified UCL as the most productive and influential mental health research institution in England.

Research themes

A key task for the UCL Institute of Mental Health will be to audit the breadth of mental health research across UCL across four key themes:

  • Basic science
  • Epidemiology 
  • Population health science and policy research
  • Clinical translational research and experimental medicine

Small Grant Funding

As part of its commitment to support mental health research, the IoMH has established a small grants scheme with a commitment to award £25,000 in the coming academic financial year.
