Project Manager- UCL Medical School Education Consultancy

Duties and Responsibilities

The post-holder will provide project management and administrative support for MSEC projects.

The post-holder will primarily provide this support on the Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) Curriculum Development Project, where UCL is supporting UQU to introduce a new Batchelor of Medicine and Batchelor of Surgery (MBBS) undergraduate programme over next five years.

This post will provide project management and administrative support to underpin the successful delivery of the first two years of the Agreement. It is also anticipated that the post holder will support a limited number of smaller MSEC projects.

The post may involve occasional travel outside of the UK for onsite visits to our project partners.

The role available from 1st June for 5 years in the first instance.

Key Requirements

The post holder will have experience of working in a project management role and co-ordinating projects through to a successful conclusion. They will have budgetary management experience. They should have a good education to Degree level or an equivalent level of knowledge acquired through experience and training/development. Excellent written, oral communication, interpersonal and IT skills are essential. An ability to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and a willingness to engage with diplomacy, tact and a willingness to work on and implement projects that may generate challenging issues. The ability to work independently in managing a large and varied case load is an invaluable asset, as is the desire and ability to contribute positively to the work of the team through a collaborative approach that balances both pragmatism and innovation.

Policy & Planning Officer (MBBS Year 4-6) - Maternity Cover

Duties and Responsibilities

UCL Medical School is looking for an experienced manager with knowledge of undergraduate medical education and experience of managing logistically complex curricula, timetabling, clinical placements and written and clinical assessments, and with an interest in contributing to medical education in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.

The successful applicant will lead a team responsible for teaching and assessment planning, development, co-ordinating and delivery in Years 4-6 of the MBBS programme; for coordinating and developing policy, processes and systems in these years; and for taking specific responsibility for operational implementation of the Year 6 programme of study which includes clinical, elective and SSC placements and Final MBBS qualifying examinations for cohorts of 380-400 undergraduate medical students. 


The post is to undertake specific maternity leave cover the duration of which is dependent upon completion of the cover, return of the post holder or cessation of the funding, whichever is the sooner. In the first instance the cover is estimated to be for 8 months from 1st June 2015. 


We would consider applicants on a Secondment basis, but candidates would need to discuss the possible Secondment with their existing line manager before applying.

Key Requirements

The successful applicant will have experience of managing a team and an in-depth knowledge of teaching and assessment administration, preferably in a medical school. S/he will demonstrate: a professional and pro-active approach; effective, confident and articulate communication skills; a collaborative and constructive approach to managing and motivating a team; and will draw on high level analytical and organisational skills with a solution-led approach to high level responsibilities and pressures. S/he will have a degree or equivalent tertiary level qualification and management and leadership training.

Quality Assurance Assistant Administrator

Duties and Responsibilities

The Medical School is looking for a proactive and collaborative administrator to play a key role in the MBBS Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) supporting the QA Manager and Academic Lead in promoting quality standards and in implementing a comprehensive and systematic quality assurance and enhancement system for undergraduate medical education at UCL. The role holder will take specific responsibility for managing student evaluation questionnaires and reports, for coordinating quality assurance audits, visits and annual returns.

Key Requirements

The successful applicant will have administrative experience and, ideally, with knowledge of medical education and quality assurance. Skills and attributes needed to fulfil the role effectively include a high level of expertise in the use of survey tools and databases and spreadsheets for the collation and reporting of data; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent organisational skills and interpersonal skills; with a pro-active, professional and collaborative approach and the ability to work under pressure in a professional, dynamic and changing environment.
