Your support
We are here to support you throughout your time at UCL. Explore the services available to help you settle in, stay well, and prepare for your future career.
UCL guarantees an offer of accommodation to all full-time, first-year undergraduate students who are studying at UCL for the first time. The guarantee applies to individual applicants only (not as part of a couple or family) who apply before the deadline and meet the eligibility criteria:
- are a first year, full time student
- apply for a single room (we have very limited couples and family accommodation)
- have not previously lived or studied at a Higher Education Institution in Greater London (inside the M25 Motorway)
- list UCL as their firm choice by 10 June in their year of study
- submit their UCL Accommodation application (separate to application to study) by 10 June in their year of study
If you’re joining UCL from overseas, we’re here to make the visa process as smooth as possible.
Our guidance covers everything you need to know from applying for your Student visa and getting your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) to understanding your digital immigration status.
You’ll also find advice on working in the UK, the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS), medical electives, and the Graduate Route visa after you finish your studies.
Your wellbeing is just as important as your academic success. At UCL, Student Support and Wellbeing (SSW) is here to help you make the most of your time with us while maintaining a healthy, balanced life.
Our dedicated team offers a wide range of services, so you can choose the support that works best for you. Whether you prefer in-person appointments, phone calls, or video sessions, accessing help is quick and easy through askUCL. Our advisers and counsellors are here to listen, understand your needs, and work with you to find solutions, always following up to ensure you feel supported.
We also provide the Transition Mentor Programme, giving every first-year undergraduate a peer mentor from your degree programme. Your mentor will help you settle in, share their own experiences, and offer friendly advice on academic topics, student life, and UCL’s support services. Weekly mentoring sessions and ongoing guidance ensure you feel part of our community from day one.
Our commitment to you
All our support is inclusive, non-judgmental, caring, confidential, and tailored to your needs.
Our team of experienced careers professionals is dedicated to helping you find the right path and achieve success in your future career. We work closely with employers and keep up-to-date with labour market trends so we can provide the best advice, whatever your starting point or ambition.
