Professor Albert Leung becomes Dean-Elect of the Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI

We are delighted to announce that Professor Albert Leung has been elected as the next Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and will take office in early 2020.

  • Professor Albert Leung becomes Dean-Elect of the Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI

Professor Leung is Professor of Dental Education, Head of our Continuing Professional Development Department and Programme Director of our Master’s in Restorative Dental Practice.

He is also the Academic Lead for Clinical Skills (Dental Manikin) for the General Dental Council’s Overseas Registration Examinations (ORE).  

Professor Leung said, “I am delighted and honoured to be Dean-Elect at RCSI  and grateful of the many experiences and challenges that my role at UCL Eastman Dental Institute has afforded me - as well as the support of exceptional colleagues”. 

“I hope that my new role will allow RCSI and the Institute to move forward and collaboratively break new boundaries in dental education in the UK, Ireland and much further afield” 

Since qualifying from Dundee University in 1985, Professor Leung has gained Fellowships from the Faculty of General Dental Practice, Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Faculty of Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, as well as further qualifications. 

He has an extensive postgraduate teaching, assessment and curriculum development profile in the UK, Ireland, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates and Sweden.

He has chaired the Examination Committee for the Faculty of Dentistry at RCSI in Ireland and has recently completed his term as Vice Dean.

Millions could benefit from faster prostate cancer scan

Results of the PRIME trial involving UCL Medical Sciences researchers have found that a quicker, cheaper MRI scan was just as accurate at diagnosing prostate cancer as the current 30-40 minute scan.
