Graphic design is being utilised to get the local community excited about medical research.

At the site of the future Pears Building, informative 70-metre-long hoardings created by design studio To The Point have been installed that aim to teach the local community about the benefits and potential of immunology research. Comprising 67 graphic panels, the hoardings are split in to four sections:

1. The science behind immunology
2. The building
3. A timeline and history of immunology
4. A community section that includes illustrations, drawings and comments from the local community.

The colourful hoardings include photographs, text and illustrations to entice passers-by to stop and find out more about immunology research and the important work undertaken at the IIT. The hoardings also aim to encourage young people to take an interest and consider a career in scientific research.

The Pears Building, which will be the home of the UCL Institute of Immunity and Transplantation (IIT) is a £42million immunology facility next to the Royal Free Hospital due to open in Autumn 2020.

Millions could benefit from faster prostate cancer scan

Results of the PRIME trial involving UCL Medical Sciences researchers have found that a quicker, cheaper MRI scan was just as accurate at diagnosing prostate cancer as the current 30-40 minute scan.
