We are delighted that Peter Fine, PhD student at our Department of CPD,  has been granted an award from the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) as part of their 40th Anniversary Scholarship for education studies.

The prize recognises his longitudinal study looking at the impact of a master's programme on confidence of general dental practitioners.  The five-year project followed two cohorts of students progressing through the Restorative Dental Practice Programme at Eastman CPD.

Peter said: “My study found that students who completed our RDP programme benefited from the part time nature of the teaching and found that their increase in knowledge and skills generated a more confident approach to treating patients in general dental practice.

“The small group seminar style of teaching supports the work of Vygotsky's Social Development theory but contradicts the previous findings about confidence particularly with respect to gender.”

“I’m delighted to receive this recognition and hope that more dentists can benefit from programmes such as Eastmans’ RDP programme in the future.”
