Our department comprises basic scientists and clinician-scientists working to unravel the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases and ageing and developing new technologies to improve tissue regeneration.

Our mission is to conduct high-impact research that not only expands our understanding of disease, but also translates scientific discoveries into improved patient care.

Our work

We employ state-of-the-art laboratory techniques, human experimental models of infection, injury and tissue regeneration, which are translated through pre-clinical models into early phase clinical testing.

Our research is complemented by access to patient data and a unique repository of curated patient and gender-diverse healthy control samples across age to unravel the complexities of disease and identify new treatment modalities.

The department actively collaborates with clinical teams at UCLH, The Royal Free Hospital, The Institute of Child Health / Great Ormond Street Hospital, Institute of Ophthalmology, and The Cleveland Clinic.

This ensures that research findings are directly applicable to patient populations.

This approach facilitates translation of our cutting-edge research into clinical practice, offering patients access to clinical trials via the latest advancements in medicine.
