Selection & Interviews
Competition for UCL Medical School is fierce. We receive around 3800 applications per year for 334 places (international student places are capped by Government).
The selection procedure
See our guide to the Medical School's selection procedure.
Interviews
No offers are made without interview. We run Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) on campus for Home fee paying candidates. Overseas students will attend online interviews.
Candidates will be asked a series of structured questions and receive a score for their responses, according to the values listed on our selection procedure.
Further detailed information will be provided to candidates when they are invited.
We suggest that you review Medical Schools Council guidance regarding online interview preparation.
Applying to UCL Medical School: Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI)
UCL Medical School Admissions Tutor, Dr Sarah Bennett, explains what to expect from the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs), how they are structured, and what UCL is looking for in future medical students. She also highlights the key qualities, skills, and values that are assessed during the MMIs to help you prepare effectively.
Timing of interviews
The interview season runs from December until March. Invitations to interview are issued on a rolling basis throughout the season, with candidates normally being given at least one week notice.
Candidates should keep us regularly informed of dates that they are unavailable by following the instructions on our Noticeboard.
Applicants should check their email regularly and should ensure that emails from Admissions are not diverted to the junk folder. We advise candidates to monitor their Junk Folder and the UCL Applicant Portal for emails from UCL.
If invited to interview we expect acknowledgment of attending within 5 calendar days.
Interview outcome
We aim to advise interviewees of the outcome of their interviews as soon as we can, although we may need to wait until all candidates have been interviewed to review the range of scores and to make offers. The outcome will be displayed on UCAS Track and on the UCL Applicant Portal. Successful applicants will receive an offer pack as an email. Candidates who are unsuccessful will normally be advised electronically only. Feedback will only be given, by request, to applicants who have been unsuccessful following an interview.
