Applications and Interviews

If you are considering applying for entry in 2027 (or deferred entry in 2028), details of how to apply and deadlines can be found on the UCAS website. Applications must be received by 18.00 (GMT) on 15th October 2026.

We normally receive around 2800-3000 applications each year.

For entry in 2027, we have 337 places at UCL Medical School. 313 are available for home fee paying applicants and 24 for overseas fee paying applicants.

All applicants need to sit the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) in the year of application. Any candidates reapplying also need to resit UCAT. 

We will initially review applications to ensure they meet our minimum academic entry requirements as outlined in our prospectus. Following receipt of UCAT scores in November, we then begin inviting candidates to attend a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI).

Each year, we normally interview around 1000 applicants and will send invitations on a rolling basis from December through to March. Invitations are sent via our University Select system. Please make sure that emails from UCL are on your School’s safe senders list so that you don’t miss any notifications and do check the UCL Select Portal system regularly for updates to your application. 

Home applicants will be interviewed in person and overseas candidates will be invited to attend an online interview. 

When you receive your invitation does not indicate a priority in terms of your application. We do ask that applicants let us know as soon as possible, if they will be unavailable for any of the interview dates (for any reason). It is unlikely that we are able to rearrange interview dates once sent.

UCAT 2026 cycle

Registration for the UCAT is a two-step process of creating an account and booking a test, using the Pearson VUE registration system.

Booking opens on 23rd June 2026 and closes on 16th September 2026 (15.00 BST).

Test dates are available between 13th July and 24th September 2026

Candidates who require extra test time, rest breaks or special accommodations must have their Access Arrangements application approved by the UCAT Office before booking their test.

UK candidates in financial need can apply for a UCAT Bursary to cover the full test fee.  Once your Bursary Application is approved you will be given a voucher code to use when booking your test.

The total score for the three cognitive subtests (Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning) will be used to rank applicants and invite to interview. Where candidates achieve the same total UCAT score, the SJT score will be used to further rank each candidate. Further details about our selection procedure can be found on our website:

We recommend that candidates use the freely available, official preparation materials to support their UCAT test preparation. 

Visiting UCL Medical School

The teaching for medical students takes place at a variety of campus locations and that there is no specific single building to visit. It is therefore not possible to offer individual department visits for Medicine. 

Visiting UCL in person

Prospective students who are interested in applying to UCL and would like to visit the main campus before making an application are advised to first consider attending one of the UCL Open Days or to sign up for a student-guided campus tour or a Medical Sciences Campus Tour.

If no guided tours are available on dates that you find convenient, it is possible to undertake the self-guided tour on any weekday.

UCL Open Days

UCL Opens Days offer a number of activities specific to Medicine and the Medical School including Medicine Admissions Talks and Taster Lectures.  You will also have the opportunity to speak with admissions and academic staff, as well as current medical students.  In addition, you can view some of our facilities, including those in the Cruciform Building, and on-campus resources such as libraries and museums.

GMC Provisional Registration

Graduates from UK Medical Schools must have provisional registration with a licence to practise before they start their first year of the Foundation Programme (F1).
