Further information
This page includes further information surrounding the Curriculum Review and the Project Management Team.
Information gathering
The first step we took was to gather information from a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external to UCL, including students, academics, staff, clinicians and patient representatives.
Students and staff have told us that:
- We could improve the links between science and clinical practice.
- Content could be more streamlined.
- Timetables are often overly complicated.
- We could be more transparent about assessments.
Student and staff feedback has led to a set of imperatives for our approach to the Curriculum Review:
- To streamline content
- To enhance integration of community medicine/primary care
- To enhance clinical relevance appropriate to the stage of training
- To reduce complexity
See our proposed new curriculum.
Reviewing potential curriculum structures
Utilising the information gathered from key stakeholders, we made several decisions regarding the structure:
- The iBSc will remain part of our programme as it aligns with UCL as an academic institution.
- The modular structure for Years 1 and 2 will remain, reflecting students' preference for the course and the effective delivery of science.
- Stakeholder engagement highlighted the value of CPP teaching, and therefore small group CPP teaching will continue.
- Late summer assessments (LSAs) in Years 4 and 5 will be completed within the academic year to avoid disruption for students.
- The Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA/Finals) will remain in Year 6.
- The Portfolio will become a formal part of the overall clinical assessment.
- Patient Pathways will be expanded in Years 1 and 2 with clinical contact specific to each module.
