Aims of the group

Belonging

  • To enable LGBTQ+ staff and students to be themselves at work.
  • To foster a sense of institutional belonging for LGBTQ+ staff and students.
  • To facilitate networking of LGBTQ+ staff, students and allies. 
  • To run one event per term. 

MBBS curriculum

  • To integrate LGBTQ+ issues in curriculum in a normalising way.
  • To prepare students to be inclusive doctors. 
  • To include LGBTQ+ specific content in each year of the MBBS curriculum. 

Staff training

  • To improve staff training on LGBTQ+ issues.
  • To improve staff support of LGBTQ+ medical students. 
  • To raise awareness about harmful effects of LGBTQ+ micro-aggressions and thinking and behaving as if everyone is heterosexual / cis / gender-conforming.

Policy and practice

  • To improve the collection of LGBTQ+ related data.
  • To bring LGBTQ+ related data collection in line with GMC recommendations.
  • To improve engagement with formal raising concerns processes.

LGBTQ+ Medics Network

LGBTQ+ Medics Network is a Network created by medical students for medical students. Its aim is to create a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ medical students at UCLMS. 

Aims

  • To foster a sense of belonging for LGBTQ+ medical students during their time at UCLMS.
  • To organise inclusive social and educational events for LGBTQ+ medical students, LGBTQ+ staff and allies.
  • To support LGBTQ+ medical students by signposting to appropriate welfare services where needed.
