Who we are

Mahdad Noursadeghi is a Professor of Infectious Diseases at UCL, Honorary Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Acute Medicine at UCLH and Whittington Hospital NHS Trusts, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He trained at Guy’s & St Thomas’ and specialised in Infectious Diseases at Northwick Park, Hammersmith, and UCLH. He completed a PhD in Sepsis Immunology at Imperial College and leads the Innate2Adaptive research group in UCL's Division of Infection & Immunity.

Michelle joined UCL in 2015 on the ARISE project, beginning her research in 2011 while working as a practice nurse with Prof Irwin Nazareth. An RGN since 1998, she holds qualifications in Teaching and Assessing (1999) and an Advanced Diploma in Women’s Health (2009). With a diverse clinical background in primary care, Michelle ran nurse-led clinics in areas like diabetes, wound care and contraception. She now oversees team operations, supports academics and works on studies including TVC-BCG.

Michelle graduated in the Philippines in 1997 and has worked as a nurse since 1998, moving to the UK in 2001. With experience in surgical gastrointestinal care and acute medicine at UCLH, her research career began in 2013 after a back injury. Passionate about infection research due to its impact on patients and healthcare costs, Michelle values the challenges and connections research brings. She is proud of its role in patient care and is currently focused on TB studies.

Kimberlee is a registered nurse with an MSc in Global Health and a passion for research. She trained at the University of Tasmania and first specialised in Emergency care with a PgC. Her first experience of research was in clinical trials in the Emergency Department. Kimberlee now works primarily on TB studies within the team, alongside work clinically in Migrant Health.

Frelyn, a senior staff nurse with 14 years in general surgery at UCLH, transitioned to the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit in 2016, working on Uro-Surgical and GI studies like DETECT-1/2, HIVEC-II, CALIBER, and PHOTO. She later coordinated Head and Neck Cancer studies, including EACH, ION, and NIMRAD. Seeking a new research focus, Frelyn joined UCL in 2018, where she now leads the NIHR BioAid RTB study on Adult Infectious Diseases.
