Our vision is to continue to evolve the Research Department of Infection (RDI) as a centre of world-leading research and teaching on infectious disease. To pursue this vision, we will advance and integrate basic and clinical research to understand and overcome pathogens of global importance and foster excellence and leadership amongst the next generation of scientists and doctors.

Lab and research groups
Centre for Clinical Microbiology
The Centre for Clinical Microbiology (CCM) aims to reduce the burden of infectious disease through research to improve diagnosis and treatment of microbial infections.
Innate2Adaptive
We study human immune responses triggered by innate immune germ-line encoded receptors, and by T cell receptors subject to gene recombination selected by prior exposures in adaptive immunity.
Infection Clinical Research Hub
We support research in Infectious Diseases involving patients and healthy volunteers at UCL and NHS Trusts in North Central and East London.
Towers Lab
In the Towers Lab, we aim to understand the molecular details of host virus interactions particularly with respect to innate immunity.
Jolly Lab
We investigate the cell biology of HIV-1 infection and spread between T cells, focussing on how HIV-1 hijacks the host T cell machinery to most efficiently replicate while evading antiviral defences.
Reeves Lab
Our lab studies human cytomegalovirus. We explore the cellular and viral mechanisms that control viral latency and reactivation and the role of the immune response in controlling viral replication.
