  • Student testimonial - Dallas Roulston

I am investigating the microbial ecology of dental plaque through the visualisation of hydrogen-ion concentration microgradients, I received funding through a CASE studentship from the BBSRC in conjunction with GlaxoSmithKline. I have worked closely with GSK and they have provided me with guidance and the opportunity to showcase my research, at both national and international conferences.

The Eastman Dental Institute the reputation of being one of the best dental research institutes in the world as well as being part of UCL, one of the top 20 universities globally.

The postgraduate research community is very active, and students are provided with the opportunity to meet, present and discuss their research on a regular basis. With the inception of the Eastman Centre for Postgraduate Research earlier this year, communication between students has only improved. There are also plenty of opportunities to socialise.

During my time at the Eastman I have been provided with many opportunities to travel to some fantastic conferences and present my work and network with eminent researchers. I have also been able to develop my teaching and obtain my Associate Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy.

I would like to develop a career in scientific research and continue my university teaching.

Millions could benefit from faster prostate cancer scan

Results of the PRIME trial involving UCL Medical Sciences researchers have found that a quicker, cheaper MRI scan was just as accurate at diagnosing prostate cancer as the current 30-40 minute scan.
