UCLMS Seminar: The intercalated BSc - Dr Melvyn Jones - 10th March

5 March 2014

This seminar will provide a valuable insight into an important aspect of the MBBS curriculum.  Integrating our BSc strengthens the research focus of, and scientific basis behind, the medical programme at UCLMS.

It is frequently cited by applicants to UCL as an important reason why they apply here. Please join us for this stimulating and interesting lunchtime seminar on the 10th March.

Melvyn has been involved in the UCL intercalated BSc in primary health care for over 14 years, leading it for the first 7 years. This course is the first internationally and recruits students from across the UK and has produced over 100 graduates, who are GPs and hospital doctors (including MB PhD transfers, and doctoral students). The course has been evaluated, and a publication about the course focusing on student research projects in the community has been published.  He led on a BEME systematic review on the role of intercalated iBScs in medical education which was published in 2013

Melvyn is also the academic lead for year 4 community based teaching at UCL Medical School, with 380 students placed in 3 courses.  He led on the revision of these courses for the UCL 2012 MBBS curriculum review.
