Introduction to Clinical Teaching

This longstanding, successful course (formerly Training to Teach) has been running since 1996. It is kept current and relevant through ongoing evaluation and iterative development.

Who is it for?

This course enables healthcare professionals to develop their teaching skills, focusing on approaches to planning and facilitating teaching and learning in classroom and clinical environments, as well as facilitating opportunistic learning for their students.

We have fostered longstanding partnerships with local hospital trusts to provide regular, commissioned courses for junior doctors and dentists. We also offer a self sign-up option, popular with both UK and international delegates.

Delegates will also receive a certificate of attendance and participation upon completion of the course.

How is it delivered?

We use a blended learning approach of asynchronous and synchronous online activities. Expert clinical educators work with small groups of learners (maximum 6 per group) in a highly interactive one-day synchronous Zoom session, supported by user access, before and after the synchronous day, to online resources in the form of videos, interactive presentations and additional resources through our UCL eXtend education platform.

What do we cover?

Topics include:

  • planning teaching
  • teaching and learning in different settings
  • facilitation skills
  • feedback
  • opportunistic teaching.

The whole course was really excellent. Ruth's enthusiasm is infectious!
Really helpful to get individualised feedback. The course facilitators were fantastic and made the course
Very interactive. Very slick use of zoom technology. Good volume of information. Good take home messages.
Very friendly atmosphere with an ability to participate in the discussion in small groups. In my practice, the first online course that did not feel inferior to face-to-face interaction.
