"Teaching is a skill and like any skill it can be learnt. Those with a special responsibility for teaching need to make every effort to develop and maintain the skills of a competent teacher".
Good Medical Practice, GMC, 2006
Training to Teach is a one day online course aimed at health professionals who are new to teaching and want to learn some skills and those who already have practical teaching experience but want to underpin their teaching with a bit of educational theory and further hone their skills. It is a very interactive course, so you will find that the majority of your time is spent working collaboratively with your peers and tutors, and more didactic information is shared as resources that you can read/watch and revisit as much as you need to, skip through bits you already know and tailor the learning to your learning needs.
The emphasis is on practical teaching skills, underpinned by a "hidden veg" approach to theory - that is, we role-model teaching underpinned by theory and evidence. We have also added a video giving a brief introduction to some key learning theories and perspectives of learning and links to further reading.
Structure of the course
The course will take place on Zoom.
