The Post Graduate Medical Education unit (PGME) offers a range of programmes for healthcare professionals seeking to increase their specialist knowledge and advance their careers in health professions education. Our Master’s programme has been designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of some of the issues around leadership, research, assessment and primary care education.

- PG Cert/Dip/MSc Health Professions Education
This highly successful flexible Master’s programme from UCL Medical School is designed to equip clinicians from all professional backgrounds to deliver the highest standards of education. The flexible, modular design has specialist pathway options all of which can be studied through fully online modalities and/or blended learning.
The programme includes a wide choice of health professions education modules, including popular modules on educational fundamentals, such as teaching & learning and assessment, as well as innovative modules on topics as diverse as clinical simulation, quality improvement, leadership and ethics & law. There is also the opportunity to study a range of modules from the world-leading UCL Institute of Education.
The programme also emphasises transferable skills, and thus enables participants to cultivate their research and analytical capabilities in order to:

Fees 2020-21
Fees for the MSc Health Professions Education are collected centrally by UCL and you will be invoiced upon commencing your studies for any modules you select in an academic year. You are then able to pay via three instalments per year (see UCL Fees website for further information).
UK/EU: £8,990 (Full-Time)
Overseas: £19,520 (Full-Time)

Bursary for January Starters
We are pleased to announce a limited number of bursaries are available for full time online MSc international students (January 2021 starters). PGME recognises that studying for the MSc HPE is a significant financial commitment for international students. We are therefore offering bursaries to ensure that eligible international students who would have considered coming to the UK to study still have the opportunity to purse the MSc online full time.
Eligibility criteria:
PGME bursaries are available to international applicants only who hold an unconditional offer for the MSc Health Professions Education full time online programme commencing January 2021. The bursary will cover 30% of the fees for one academic year only. Please contact uclms.postgraduate@ucl.ac.uk for further information.
Please note:
- You can only apply for the full MSc however if you would like to study a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma you can choose to exit with these interim awards once you have achieved the required credits.
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis - therefore the sooner you apply the sooner you will receive a decision on your application.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Short Course Programme
The modules on the PG Cert/Dip/MSc Health Professions Education are also available to be studied on a standalone basis, as either credit-bearing or non-credit-bearing (CPD without assessment).
Short Course students are given the opportunity to transfer onto the PG Cert/Dip/MSc Health Professions Education at a later date. This programme also enables prospective students to apply at additional points in the academic year rather than the standard September/January of each year.
Fees 2020-21
Short Course/CPD module fees are collected at departmental level by UCL Medical School and are payable via the UCL Online Store (credit/debit card).
15 credits: UK £750.00, Overseas £1,626.67
30 credits: UK £1,500, Overseas £3,253.33
Non-credit-bearing: £350.00
