PALS EDI Learnning Modules

These modules were created by 6th year medical students as part of their Peer Assisted Learning Scheme (PALS) Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) project. It is designed to support your learning, and broaden your understanding of EDI topics in medicine, and challenge some of the preconceptions you may have. It is not compulsory to complete, however we hope this module encourages further reading about addressing health inequities.

Opportunities to participate in research

We are often contacted by UCL and external researchers wishing to involve medical students in their research relating to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). A list of current research opportunities you may wish to participate:

UCL African Caribbean Medical Network (ACMN) – Welcome Event

ACMN Welcome Event

On Thursday 26th October the UCL African Caribbean Medical Network (ACMN) hosted its first event of the year. ACMN’s mission is to connect Black medical students from various years at UCL creating a supportive and inclusive community within medical school.

Our ‘Meet & Greet’ event was incredibly enjoyable. We reconnected with our current members and introduced the freshers to what ACMN is all about. We were honoured to have two ACMN alumni, Ivan and Lauren, who shared their experiences in founding the society, their medical school journeys and post-UCL endeavours.

Following this, we organised a round of speed friending to ensure everyone had a chance to connect following by some competitive rounds of the popular game, Family Feud. Traditional African and Caribbean refreshments including Supermalt, Ginger beer, and meat pies were also served.

We also launched the very first ACMN brother- sister programme. We recognise that transitioning to studying medicine at a top university like UCL can be challenging so we have established this scheme to help make the transition a little easier for the freshers. This is particularly significant since many of our members are first generation university students or the first in their family to pursue a medical degree.

LGBTQ+ Medics Welcome Event

LGBTQ+ Medics Welcome Event

On Tuesday 3rd October 2023 the LGBTQ+ Medics Network held its annual welcome event bringing together members of the community in the medical school as it has done for many years.

The core focus of the network is to build an inclusive and caring community across students and staff and to provide peer support (and fun) for all that would like it. Pictured are some of the attendees of the event.

Looking ahead to the new academic year, network member Dario Ken, welcomed new members to the Network adding ‘I hope to see you all at our future events, so keep an eye on our Instagram for information!’
