In this article, Neha Bhudia (President) explains what the Engineering Society has to offer in terms of personal development, social life and much more.

The UCL Engineering Society (UCLES) is the Largest STEM Society at UCL. UCLES brings together 7 societies and all engineering students together under one roof, making UCLES the largest society partnership at UCL.

UCLES has 5,000+ active members, and has objectives centered around Collaboration, Innovation and Discovery.  UCLES is committed to providing innovative opportunities and insights to UCL STEM Students,  enabling and empowering students to forge their careers in the most competitive fields and enhance student experience.

Established in 2018, within a short period of time UCLES has become one of the most prominent brands on campus. In the society’s inaugural year, UCLES was awarded the coveted ‘Society of the Year’ from the Students’ Union out of 320+ Societies. Since UCLES’ inception, the society has soared from strength to strength, growing exponentially and increasing its reach, members, and opportunities on offer year on year, and as ever, the society remains free and open to all.

UCLES is one of the most sponsored societies on campus, having secured 45+ Sponsors across our 3 years of establishment, from the most competitive industries from engineering, technology, investment banking and law, UCLES is the leading Career’s hub for STEM students. Our 2020-21 Sponsors include Bloomberg, Citi, Allen & Overy to name a few, and previously we have been sponsored by Twitter, Morgan Stanley, Cisco, J.P. Morgan

With a full-on termly calendar, UCLES ensures its members are well prepared to seek their dream internship or job at the most competitive firms. Our eagerly awaited career events span application skills workshops such as mock interview and assessment centre sessions and CV clinics to company specific applications and for those looking to enter entrepreneurship and start-ups, we host a Start Up Speed Dating networking evening.

Termly networking events targeted towards BAME and Women members provide an opportunity to challenge the underrepresentation of these groups within engineering and technology. Office tours are always an exciting opportunity for members giving students the chance to network, learn more about the firm's culture and seek tips on the process!

Innovation at UCLES looks like one of the largest and eagerly awaited Student Led Conferences- LONDON 2050. This conference attended by 400+ individuals grants innovative enthusiastic students exposure to cutting edge technology at the forefront of STEM to inspire the next generation of disruptors. LONDON 2050 encompasses a range of engaging sessions from panels, keynote speeches and idea driven break-out sessions. Innovation does not stop at LONDON 2050, our drone project, introduction to deep learning, AI and Machine Learning session and our upcoming hackathons and engineering projects scheduled for the year ahead.

At UCLES, bringing people together is not just limited to careers or academic related events. UCLES hosts some of the grandest and most popular socials on Campus, with our flagship Engineering Ball, also the largest and grandest ball at UCL, attended by 400+ individuals at 5* Central London Venues.  Freshers’ events and icebreakers is an unforgettable experience, as is the annual Halloween Party held in collaboration with Ramsay Society at Dirty Martini and our termly pub crawls. UCLES has held LOOP takeovers and nights at XOYO, raising money for charity.

With free membership, unforgettable socials, exclusive opportunities for personal and career development, the UCL Engineering Society is a must join. With another packed annual calendar, with our most diverse series of events and speakers yet, the UCL Engineering Society would like to congratulate and welcome you to UCL.
