Inspiring the next generation: outreach work featured in The Engineer

27 March 2018

Metabolight

'When they're not developing life-saving technology, members of the Multimodal-Spectroscopy Research Team at UCL are actively sharing knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage youngsters to become medical physicists and biomedical engineers'.

Ilias Tachtsidis and Gemma Bale are interviewed in The Engineer today.

Gemma talks about CYRIL, a unique device which she has developed, alongside hospital doctors, which uses near-infrared spectroscopy to monitor the level of brain injury in newborn babies in intensive care.

Ilias discusses Metabolight, the Wellcome-funded public engagement platform that gives the team an opportunity to share their research and encourage students to become the next generation of medical physicists and biomedical engineers.
