Title: Adventures in Embryo Imaging
Abstract:
The 3D arrangement of cells in the preimplantation human embryo is a topic of interest to practitioners in the field of reproductive medicine. In basic research, the use of confocal microscopy for generating 3D reconstructions is commonplace. However, the use of confocal microscopy in the IVF clinic is often infeasible due to cost and generally not being good for the embryo (read: phototoxicity). The assessment of 3D cell arrangement in clinical settings can thus prove difficult as many embryologists rely on focal stacks captured through the Hoffman modulation contrast microscopes widely integrated into embryo incubators. In this talk, Chloe will be taking you on a merry ride through the world of clinical embryo imaging and discussing her recent work on bringing the analysis of embryos into the third dimension.
