Title: Supporting impact: XIP and CS-XIP for disseminating your proprietary and opensource software.
Abstract:
UCLB’s XIP platform has transacted over 6000 licences in 10 years, of which over a half were provided entirely free of charge. In collaboration with Computer Science’s Strategic Alliances team, we have now configured CS’s very own XIP storefront which is intended to showcase and disseminate IP developed within the department. I will give an overview of the features of the platform and how it can be used for helping researchers deliver impact whilst also providing a one stop shop for the department to proudly display its research outputs. I will also be prepared to answer your questions on software licensing and how XIP can sit alongside Github distributions.
Bio:
Marina Santilli is an Associate Director at UCL Business where she has worked with many academics over the past 14 years to help deliver impact from the intellectual property generated through their novel research. She particularly specialises in the creation of spinout companies, in supporting academics through that process and in delivering programmes to encourage academic entrepreneurialism such as Portico Ventures and CS I/O Labs. Marina has significant experience of both commercial and opensource software licensing and is also the founder of e-lucid (XIP), a white label web system for the licensing of University IP.
