Title - Using neuroimaging evidence to inform policy: obesity and urban violence prevention

Abstract:

Evidence-informed policymaking is important to increase insights in policy decisions and translate research into action. Although many types of evidence can inform policy and practice, few evidence comes from neuroimaging studies. It will be presented some multi-disciplinary studies from our research group that applied electroencephalography and focused on public health concerns such as obesity and urban violence. It will also be discussed how to improve the real-world impact of neuroimaging evidence, by conducting studies that provide understandable and demand-led evidence.

Dr. Isabel David is an Associate Professor from Federal Fluminense University (Physiology and Pharmacology Department) in Brazil on sabbatical leave at UCL Computer Science (CMIC). She has a background in nutrition and dietetics. She then earned a PhD in Neurophysiology in 2008 at the Biophysics Institute of Rio de Janeiro Federal University (Brazil) with a period at the Psychology Department of Granada University in Spain. In 2009 she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Psychiatry Institute of Rio de Janeiro Federal University. She co-leads the Laboratory of Behavioral Neurophysiology at Federal Fluminense University. Her ongoing projects collect interdisciplinary scientic knowledge from neuroscience, nutrition and psychiatry with the purpose of investigating the interplay between emotional processes and health outcomes. The main neuroimaging measure applied in her studies is EEG. Dr Isabel David was awarded in 2014 and 2018 as Young Scientist of the State of Rio de Janeiro by Chagas Filho Research Support Foundation for her studies on obesity prevention. She is a member of the Oncobiology Program at the Biochemical Institute at Rio de Janeiro Federal University and a member of the Society for Psychophysiological Research.
