Title: Endoscopic Camera Motion
Abstract: Estimating camera motion from perspective imaging cues is now commonplace in many domains from self-driving cars, drones, and handheld cameras in human made environments using well established techniques such as visual SLAM and Structure-from-Motion. Performing the same task on image guided surgery has many potential applications in assisted navigation, augmented reality, automation of surgical tasks, and motion analysis. However, the surgical environment presents many challenges for motion estimation that render off-the-shelf visual SLAM /SfM systems unreliable. This talk will overview some of the problems and current progress in estimating camera motion in surgery, with emphasis on calibration, feature detection, and motion constraints.
