e-Motion Laboratory

It is a team of talented researchers, engineers & designers, passionate about electrical machines and drives and testing the limits of what they can achieve for our collaborators, sponsors and clients

The UCL e-Motion Laboratory with an outstanding track record for innovation and successful commercialisation of Electrical Machines and Drives is known for its pioneering fundamental research on high-speed high-power density electrical machines and drives for applications used in automotive, marine, aerospace, renewable energy and industrial sectors.  The e-Motion researchers have facilitated the achievement of many synergies such as the demand for higher power density, enhanced energy efficiency, improved reliability, cost reduction, characterisation, innovative manufacturing, and greater functionality. We cover research and teaching topics of advanced electric machines, electric drives, control strategy, power electronic drives, electrification of transportation, and renewable energy technologies.

The e-Motion Laboratory is affiliated with the UCL Department of Mechanical Engineering and is Co-directed by Dr Pedram Asef and Dr Shun Cai. Past and ongoing commercial and research projects at the e-Motion Laboratory are sponsored by the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Innovate UK (UKRI), European Space Agency (ESA), and the European Commission (Horizon).
